A defeat by 7-2 with both Liz & Mark and Jackie & Adam taking a game each, while Mel & Vic although losing 3 took two of their games to 3.
Result :- 7/2 Points 428/363

Friday, 25 November 2011
Defeat at Ashbourne 24th November
Due to sickness and work commitmnets we were only able to field 2 pairs.
Paul & Vince lost all 3 games 0-6 .... 66-126 points. Hey ho!!
Very sociable and accommodating opponents, whose non-playing Captain kept our scorebook. We lost 6-3 ....365-209
A downside was the need to pay for parking at £1.90 for 2hours from a machine that didn't seem to dispense change!!! Still QBC saved on postage!!!

Another Mixed win against Ripley B
Men's Team win against ROLLS ROYCE "E"
31st October Despite having only 2 pairs Mark & Adam ..Vic & Andy the team triumphed 5-4. On the night the thought was that although they wonthe resutl was to the visitors as we only fielded a team of twom pairs. So the losers posted the RESULT card thinking they'd won. They hadn't .Quarndon won but were penalised by a point for the short team. TREMENDOUS!

1st Mixed of the Season.... A Win!!

First Match 2011/12 Men @ Etwall Dragons
We all eventually found the Sports Centre some more easily than others!!! Two Courts available so Adam & Mark and Vic & Paul led the way. A good hall nice floor, strip lights, and an audience of Vince's brother's family ... although some of us didn't realise it until they had gone at the end of the match! Mark and Adam went down 21-14/21-10 in their first game and finished 3 down at the end of the evening 126-75.
Vic and Paul fared no better losing their first game 21-8/21-19 and finishing 3 down at the end of the evening also on 126/75
Andy and Vince were 21-9/21-13 in their first game (ANDY's first match for us) and finally 3 down 126-61. Unfortunately I missed Vince and our spectators with the camera will try better next time! Generally despite the 9-0 defeat 378-211 the evening was good! ... an early finish before 9.00 p.m.

FinalMixed of 2010/11 Season
Vic Hoad advices a narrow 5-4 defeat against Ripley in "non-quarndon" conditions .He and Rachel having won thier first Rubber then lost the next two due to heat exhaustion.!!. Mark & Mel picked up two , while Adam & Jackie picked up the other. With two courts from 8.30 pm the match was over by 10.00 p.m.
Vic reckoned that having to shower and change after each rubber due to the heat was a definite disadvantage. Hey ho!!!! they should be at Quarndon in January next year.

Mens Match ... the last of the season
Vic Hoad writes:-
The Nook won 5-4; (13 games to 8 and 396 aces to 317). Our team Mark & Adam; Vic & Dean (AKA John MacIntyre); Sandy & Vince. Mark & Adam played the best I have seen them play in a match and really worked well as a pair. Vic & Dean took the first rubber to work out how to play together (Dean being left handed and Vic being forgetful) but won their next rubber after a hard fight 21:15, 18:21, 22:24. Sandy & Vince also had an endless rubber against 1 pair narrowly losing 21:10, 19:21, 21:15. Refreshments of orange squash & Jaffa cakes offered late on. All in all an enjoyable evening and look forward to beating them at our place next season. Recuperating now before tonight's final mixed of the season at Ripley.

Mixed Match Monday 7th March
Vic Hoad writes:-Played at Long Eaton, 7.30pm
Team
Mel & Mark
Jackie & Adam Photograph to follow....!
Vic & Rachel l
Orange Squash, Choc chip cookies, cherry bakewells and mini choc rolls – that was probably the highlight of the evening and I think Quarndon can be proud of clearly winning this event.
As to the badminton –
The sports hall was cooler than expected which was to our advantage but the newly painted light green walls and new overhead lights were not.
Mel and Mark opened the batting while Jackie & Adam went on court 2. Unfortunately after those 2 games we were down to one court until 9.30.
I would like to report a QBC victory but although many games were close, that was not to be and the result was Brookside 8 Quarndon the rest.
Honour was saved by the Redsell contingent winning one game and but for Mel having an attack of cramp they would surely have one a 2nd.
Proof of the games being close was the sad fact that it was almost 10.30 when chauffeur Jackie kindly drove us home and too late to lick our wounds at the Markeaton.

Mens Match 31st January 2011
Another COLD COLD night.
Vic and Paul started well winning in three games and so softening up the 1st pair (2 pleasant your lads.)
However their overall performance resulted in 1-2 ( Points 109-144) Playing 1, 5,9 again didn't help BUT losing 16 & 18 in game 9 was "goodish"
The new pairing of two left handers of Dean and Sandy saw equally mixed results, with Dean playing his first match and Sandy winning his first game. Their final result was 1-2 (points 81-122)
Their (Mark & John) pose for the photo goes some way to indicating the TEMPERATURE ... or lack of it. John played with a bad back and was helped by his "IBRUFIN" .. no drugs test was taken!!! Their end result was 0-3 (points 96-144) having won one game 21-18.
The end result was a loss of 7-2 and a saving on postage!!!!!!

Mixed Match 23rd January 2011
Thanks Chris.
Started well again Mark & Mel taking the 1st Rubber to 3 and winning. They contiued this form throughout winning the remainder in 2 games. (146-120 points)
Rachel and Vic also had an impressive start losing their first game 22-20 but coming back to take it to 3 games only to lose. BUT another 3 games Rubber they won to take the match to a decider. (138-145 points)
Lost 5-4 (391 -359 points)

Mens Match 17th January
Started well with a junior and his Dad (transport) arriving. The Junior promptly got on the phone to his partner who was late!!! However, the junior was two weeks early !!! Plays for Belper and the match is on the 31st January.
Brookside won 7-2 ( Aces 351- 253 ) Complimenting us on the provision of traditional refreshments!
Brookside arrived and with a brief knock up Vic & Paul started spendidly taking the first game 21-16 only to lose the next 21-3 and the 3rd 21-11..... their softening up role complete! Finally losing all 3 by the end of the evening and missing an opportunity for a 3rd set in the final game giving away a 17-20 lead to lose it 20-22 The final points were 0-3 ( Aces 84-141)
Mark & Adam (with a bad back) spledidly capitalised on the "softening up" to take 2 of their 3 games and plaudits from the opposition on their abilities.
However, Adam's back somewhat painful and he has felt obliged to drop out of the Mixed Match against Rolls Royce on Sunday 23rd January in the hope that all will be well for the Mens Match on 31st January.
Final Points 2-1 ( Aces 112-84)
Sandy and John (another injury) had some excellent points but joined Paul & Vic in losing all three to give a 7-2 victory to Brookside . Hopefully John's "Physio" will cure his problem.
Final points. 0-3 ( Aces 57-126)
Brookside won 7-2 ( Aces 351- 253 ) Complimenting us on the provision of traditional refreshments!
