Mixed against Friesland B @ ????? on 17th November 2012

Splendid pick up of whole team, except Liz, promptly at 11.15 and  great run to Friesland Liesure Centre to meet Liz. OPPS!!! Centre dedicated to "Acrobatics" all day!!!!
Modern technology solved the problem. Mobile calls and Vic's Satnav took us to the Kirk Hallam Leisure Centre , 2 badminton courts  and smiles to get the Match on the road.
Mark and Mel produced a good first game to win in 2 games to finish the match 2 games to 1 & 110/100 points.
Vic and  Liz (0-3 130/84 points... one game went to 25)  & Paul and Jackie (0-3 126/73 points) fared less well.
Overall it was a 7-2  (356/269 points) defeat again with a low net .... but not quite as low as the Men's on Wednesday at Snelston.  A nice atmosphere and an enjoyable event nontheless. As Vic said,"We would probably have won at home, if they'd found us"

Thanks for the transport Vic.

Men's Away to Alfreton @ Snelston 14th November 2012.

A welcoming opposition, who provide 3 courts for the Match. Downside was the nets, which instead of being "NOSE HIGH" were about "TIT HIGH"  and adjustment lifted the post! The result was a 9-0 defeat and an early finish  378/187 points

Deane & Mark  led the way with 126/71 points.
Paul & Vic fared no better at 126/65
Nor did Scott & Jim with 126/51.
Loaded into the car for a quick return to the MARKEATON by 9.00 pm for beer & coke to replace lost "juices". As Vic said ( I think ) "We would have beaten them at our place assuming they found it!!"        Thanks Vic for the transport.

First Home Mixed November 12th Abbey Dunkirk

A damp and dark night. Abbey Dunkirk had dificulty in locating QBC on the Common.
Vic & Paul guided a Lady (Mrs J Ferguson) in, who was lost and at start time she was the only Abbey Dunkirk player on the scene. All our team of Vic/Liz,  Paul/Jackie & Scot/Mel were ready to go. So Vic & Paul manned the dark gates with a badminton racquet ... hurrah!! Arrivals sufficient to get Vic & Liz onto the court to win in 2. With more arrivals Paul & Jackie managed another win in 2. Looking good  particularly as Mrs F's partner still hadn't arrived we might be claiming 3 games and would have won!!!
As we considered playing out of sequnce he did and took Scott & Mel out in 2 games  and later took Vic & Liz /Paul & Jackie equally in 2. It must be said Scott & Mel's performance against them was considerably the best at 26-42 points.
Subsequently Scott & Mel took 2 games to 3 and winning 1 . Vic & Liz also took a game to 3 but lost it leaving the overall result at 3-6 (352-400 points) with eachpair having won 1.
As usual the home refreshments were good, with Vic's sausage rolls hitting the "spot".
