Vic Hoad [13/02/2012 12:06:32]writes:-
Mens' at Derby Uni yesterday.
Victor Hoad: Trigger happy. brief report. Mark & Adam took 2 rubbers to 3 but just lost 3rd game. Vic and Andy, Sandy & Vince were all thinking of a late Sunday lunch so got their games over more quickly.  9-0 to Derby Uni (we would have taken them at our place)

Victory over David Lloyd (C) MIXED

Vic Hoad writes:- At last. A victory to report.
@4 inches of snow at week end so on Sunday night I rang Chris to discuss cancelling. We decided to keep the gate shut so cars would not get stuck and go ahead. Glad we did.I played with Liz (who bravely turned out in the freezing conditions although suffering with the lurgy) as by 6.30 we were the only QBC players to have arrived. 3 young pairs from David Lloyd.
Lost 1st game 21-9 to a young lad and a girl who was excellent and  could smash almost as hard as the lad. We dug deep (like the expression? I picked it up from Match of the Day interviews) and won the 2nd game 21-15.
Then the girl cheated and took off her track suit top. Low cut sleeveless top, magnificent pair of eyes, forced me to play more drop shots to the net than normal. We just lost 26-24..
Mark & Mel and Adam & Jackie put in great performances and won all their games. Really exciting to watch – no walk overs, all the games were hard fought.
Liz & I won our 2nd (pleasing as the match had not been won at that time) again going to best of 3.
All in all a great night and Chris was ready with a post match pint at the Markeaton."

Mixed Match @ Alfreton 1st February 2012

Vic Hoad writes:- "Hi Paul, 30Degrees here, that's F of course.  Anothert valiant defeat last night. Dreadful hall at Selston - 4 courts so close together that the bases of the net posts almost touched and on the end courts the bases touched the walls. The nets had tape wider than the space available between the posts. Alfreton were happy to play with the centre of the net being about 6 inches below the top of the posts. However, my time as an aprentice in the Paul Houghton school of net erection sorted it. Tape stretched over the post and about 6 inches down side before being strongly lashed up. Strip lights also deardful. However, despite the moans a great night. Many games to 17, and some to 18 & 19. Mark & Liz won 1 21:18 21:18. On our (Mel & Vic'c) last game we took it to 3, winning 1st 21:19 but then being totally b.....d and losing next 2 quite easily. There at 7, started about 7.15 and home for 9. Regards Vic"
